IT POWER MEETS SHOW DESIGN

Open space, shared desks and a gaming lounge. At the Alpenstrasse IT Tower in Salzburg, Wuestenrot created an open, modern office building, with a focus on communication where working is fun.

By means of a targeted intervention, the Salzburg team of architects MAYR ARCHITEKTEN ZT GmbH brought an old, unprofitable office building back to life. They skillfully integrated the new office building with flexible use into the existing ensemble. The extension of the inner court yard added extra value. The new architecture which is characterised by leaps, projecting cubes and bridges, creates exciting outer areas that can be used for various activities.

In line with the original building’s anodised expanded metal façade, the new building was given a meaningful version of the same material. ProMetall supplied 3mm aluminium perforated metal sheets type Rt 3-6 coloured in gold. The ProMetall “high-tech-production” included approx. 1,400 perforated panels up to 4.1m high and with minimum tolerances. The architects decided to use vertical slats that can be twisted. The result: a cool building with perfect sun protection and maximum light in the interior rooms. The building’s image changes in accordance with the position of the slats; this create a touch of science fiction, suitable for the sector.

PERFORATED METAL - A CLASSIC WITH A NEW COATING

Perforated metal sheets have been produced in Europe since the late 19th century. In the past, perforated metal sheets were mainly used as sieve and filter elements and as protective plates in industry and machine construction. Creative designers and Western European product experts found new applications for the functional metal sheet – in the form of innovative designs for façade construction. Perforated metal sheets are popular for visual protection of façades in modern residential, hotel and office complexes and are often used for staircases and balconies. Nevertheless, perforated metal sheet has retained its practical character in the design sector and is also used as sound insulation in building construction.
