INSPIRING DESIGN FOR TOMORROW’S INTELLECTUAL ELITE

With approx. 5,000 students, Sigmund Freud Private University (SFU) is Austria’s largest private university, consisting of the faculty for psychotherapy science as well as three other faculties for psychology, medicine and law.

To create the space for the expansion, the new faculty building for medicine and law was erected at Freudplatz in Vienna. Spread out over six floors, the new location provides space for the new degree programmes and is equipped with the technical equipment for the studies of medicine and law, science and research.

The university campus consists of three buildings with different uses; they form a logical unit on the basis of their geometry, yet at the same time they are creatively and functionally independent of each other. The sculptural character is stressed by a homogenously materialised building cover.

This project presented a huge challenge for ProMetall: the emergency stairs had to be equipped with hot-dip-galvanised special gratings type 31×9/30×2; these gratings have a span of up to two metres. The result is a clear, functional and aesthetic form language which provides the perfect frame for these studies.
