A “classic”, beautiful story: ProMetall architecture consulting late 2017, sampling, consultancy, decision, supply 2019, completion 2020. Technically perfect, visually centred expanded metal elements in various special sizes as sun protection and cladding elements for the façade.

The Brain@Work project is located at Viktringer Ring 28 in Klagenfurt am Woerthersee and includes a hotel, office space and an academic institution under one roof. The deliberate choice of E-shaped cubature with a graded scale towards the top ensures perfect execution of the desired functional mix.

MANY CLEVER HEADS UNDER ONE ROOF

The Brain@Work Projekt, constructed between 2019-2020, is located in Klagenfurt am Woerthersee and includes a hotel, office space and an academic institution.

The deliberate choice of E-shaped cubature with a graded scale towards the top ensures perfect execution of the desired functional mix. On the sides facing the street, the building‘s elegant design is characterised by sophisticated façade slabs and generous glass areas.

As a result of the simple linear form and the elegant choice of colours and materials, the building is perfectly integrated into the existing environment. The bay window breaks up the rectangular shape in the building’s South-Eastern part and highlights the building on the two representative sides of the street. The main entrance is highlighted by a central risalite.

The first meetings regarding selection of materials took place in the design phase in late 2017. ProMetall advised the planners regarding façade design and provided extensive sampling. The process took several months, and the preferred material was supplied in 2019: technically perfected, visually centred expanded metal elements type “Zadar”, aluminium 2mm, RAL-powder-coated in various special sizes as sun protection and cladding elements for the façade. The project was completed in 2020 and is considered one of the most accomplished buildings in the city of Klagenfurt, due to its exterior and interior architecture.

EXPANDED METALS – practical and elegant

Expanded metals and expanded grates are made of a single piece of metal to ensure there are no strands causing wear and tear and no weighed-down connections or welding seams. As a result, the sustainable, robust material exhibits significant strength and surface stability which makes it ideal for use in façade design. Various materials can be used, the mesh is generally diagonal, hexagonal, round or square, neither twisted nor welded. Depending on the type, various effects are possible. The material retains its inner stability even when it is cut.
Due to their 3-dimensional character, façades made of expanded metal turn into “eye catchers”.
