INSPIRATION FOR ARTISTIC-CREATIVE HEADS

With the new branch at Vordere Zollamtstrasse 7 and the general renovation of the Schwanzer wing in the main building at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz 2 which dates back to the early 1960s, the university of applied arts takes a crucial step towards room expansion and modernisation.

The Viennese architects Daniel Bammer and Peter Riepl transformed the former finance building into a modern, inward-turned campus for students at one of Europe’s most renowned creative universities.
During the new location’s conversion, the Schwanzer wing in the main building at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz 2 was extensively renovated. The inner building structure was torn down to the foundation walls and the rooms were arranged in a new way according to the current functional requirements to ensure flexible use with studios, ateliers, workshops, offices and seminar rooms.
ProMetall was instructed to carry out the design of the interior cladding, wall and ceiling cladding and room dividers. We used perforated metal sheet elements type “Rt 1.5-3” made of 1.5 mm thick steel. The colour RAL “Champagne 611” was chosen for powder-coating. The result: light, inspiring rooms to be used as creative playgrounds for interdisciplinary work.

PERFORATED METAL - A CLASSIC WITH A NEW COATING

Perforated metal sheets have been produced in Europe since the late 19th century. In the past, perforated metal sheets were mainly used as sieve and filter elements and as protective plates in industry and machine construction. Creative designers and Western European product experts found new applications for the functional metal sheet – in the form of innovative designs for façade construction. Perforated metal sheets are popular for visual protection of façades in modern residential, hotel and office complexes and are often used for staircases and balconies. Nevertheless, perforated metal sheet has retained its practical character in the design sector and is also used as sound insulation in building construction. Advantages, applications robust material, combines functionality with attractive looks, façade design in transparent look, to visual protection, staircase and balcony railings, suspended metal ceilings, ventilation technology, insect screens in residential buildings, sound insulation.
