WHEN THE WORD COMMUNITY IS ACTIVELY PRACTISED
The Quartiershaus Gruener Markt at Vienna’s Sonnwend quarter is a new type of urban infrastructure, the co-creation-space.
People live, work, produce and research in this complex. The living concept is based on the idea of sharing and to this effect there is an abundance of communal rooms and expansive terrace areas that are accessible to everyone. A hall extending over three floors and a courtyard structure the building’s floor plan and provide varied exterior and interior rooms in urban dimension. Commercial and communal areas are designed in a transparent look. The flats face towards the pedestrian zone. The double-curved façade ensures that all flats are lit equally. Transparency, light and the colour green play important roles in the design concept.
All loggias and balconies are equipped with plant pots that are used to landscape the façade by means of creepers. The balcony panels were realised via the rare ProMetall perforated metal sheet type “Rt8-16“ which allows a low transparency of 22%. The holes are arranged in a triangular format with symmetrical spaces which makes the panel extremely symmetrical and visually attractive. Function meets the highest degree of aesthetic and a timeless line that complements the promising usage concept.
PERFORATED METAL SHEET – a new take on a classic
Perforated metal sheets have been produced in Europe since the late 19th century. In the past, perforated metal sheets were mainly used as sieve and filter elements and as protective plates in industry and machine construction. Creative designers and Western European product experts found new applications for the functional metal sheet – in the form of innovative designs for façade construction. Perforated metal sheets are popular for visual protection of façades in modern residential, hotel and office complexes and are often used for staircases and balconies. Nevertheless, perforated metal sheet has retained its practical character in the design sector and is also used as sound insulation in building construction. Advantages, applications robust material, combines functionality with attractive looks, façade design in transparent look, to visual protection, staircase and balcony railings, suspended metal ceilings, ventilation technology, insect screens in residential buildings, sound insulation.
