UPGRADE FOR A POOR VIENNESE COUSIN
The name is all that is left of the former market place in the 22nd Viennese district.
Genochmarkt, which used to be a popular market where fresh produce was sold, changed a long time ago. The market disappeared and the district’s inhabitants avoided the shabby stalls and the bleak buildings covered with graffiti. The city decided to sell Genochmarkt to a property group in Graz that built a free-standing residential complex with eleven floors and an underground car park. The focus of the new construction project with high-quality residential units was on a modern image and top-quality amenities.
Towards Erzherzog-Karl-Strasse, the building is covered by two layers, towards the South side, the building displays spacious glazing and balconies. The claddings are made of ProMetall expanded metal type “Ljubljana”, aluminium 1.5mm, RAL-powder-coated. The expanded metal panels were installed with a 180 degree twist to ensure light incidence from above, and at the same time providing the new luxury flats with visual protection from below and thus creating the highest degree of privacy.
Together with the Areal STAR22, the 35m-high building on Genochmarkt is an attractive portal to the city and adds permanent value for Donaustadt.
EXPANDED METALS – practical and elegant
Expanded metals and expanded grates are made of a single piece of metal to ensure there are no strands causing wear and tear and no weighed-down connections or welding seams. As a result, the sustainable, robust material exhibits significant strength and surface stability which makes it ideal for use in façade design. Various materials can be used, the mesh is generally diagonal, hexagonal, round or square, neither twisted nor welded. Depending on the type, various effects are possible. The material retains its inner stability even when it is cut. Due to their 3-dimensional character, façades made of expanded metal turn into “eye catchers”.
