Architecture that builds artistic bridges
Croatia’s biggest school project to date was realised in Bukovac, a residential area in the district Maksimir in Zagreb.
The focus of the EU-funded project was to extend the educational institution due to the constantly increasing population and its need for modern educational premises and means. The Croation architects Proarh, headquartered in Zagreb, gave the project its distinctive creative touch and created a modern educational complex that easily lives up to international standards. ProMetall was commissioned with the production of façade panels made of expanded metal type “Bregenz”; these panels were supplied over the course of several months in the summer of 2023, so that Croatia’s biggest expanded metal façade could be realised on an area of 9,000 m2 “just in time”. The individual buildings rest on imposing cement pillars, designed to look like lake dwellings that give the outer façades the appearance of floating. This makes school is fun again!
EXPANDED METALS – practical and elegant
Expanded metals and expanded grates are made of a single piece of metal to ensure there are no strands causing wear and tear and no weighed-down connections or welding seams. As a result, the sustainable, robust material exhibits significant strength and surface stability which makes it ideal for use in façade design. Various materials can be used, the mesh is generally diagonal, hexagonal, round or square, neither twisted nor welded. Depending on the type, various effects are possible. The material retains its inner stability even when it is cut. Due to their 3-dimensional character, façades made of expanded metal turn into “eye catchers”.
