A DAZZLING DISPLAY IN THE MOUNTAINS

After 21 years it finally happened: in 2023 the Ehrwalder Almbahn’s valley station was extensively modernised. The construction measures included new escalators to the cable car, a roofed bus stop, a kiss & ride area as well as the revitalisation of the mountain station and the construction of a an underground car park.
The new façade, delivered by ProMetall, combines functionality, precision and alpine aesthetic in an impressive manner. Perforated metal sheets type “RT 5-8” made of galvanised steel sheet DX51D+Z with a durable RAL-powder coating were used for the project. Elaborate further processing turned these sheets into trapezoidal metal sheets type 35/207/0,75 with a coverage width of 1035 mm, used to cover a total area of 1,600 m² with approx. 500 individually manufactured panels. Each panel is one of a kind, up to 8 meters high. The result is a façade that blends harmoniously into the mountain landscape and, at the same time, has a powerful impact. While interacting with light, snow and steel, it shows its full effect – powerful, precise, yet surprisingly light. A powerful statement for alpine architecture showing the possibilities of design and trade working in harmony.

PERFORATED METAL - A CLASSIC WITH A NEW COATING

Perforated metal sheets have been produced in Europe since the late 19th century. In the past, perforated metal sheets were mainly used as sieve and filter elements and as protective plates in industry and machine construction. Creative designers and Western European product experts found new applications for the functional metal sheet – in the form of innovative designs for façade construction. Perforated metal sheets are popular for visual protection of façades in modern residential, hotel and office complexes and are often used for staircases and balconies. Nevertheless, perforated metal sheet has retained its practical character in the design sector and is also used as sound insulation in building construction. Advantages, applications robust material, combines functionality with attractive looks, façade design in transparent look, to visual protection, staircase and balcony railings, suspended metal ceilings, ventilation technology, insect screens in residential buildings, sound insulation.
