ProMetall contributed to a project that was scheduled to last 6 years – conversion, restructuring and expansion of the HTBLA in Villach – by means of a beautiful façade made of expanded metal – a visual upgrade of the bicycle park; and – the visual choice of the product type “Villach” was truly a coincidence … the rest was planning the details with the support of ProMetall’s experienced technicians…
BIKES NEED HOMES TOO
Between 2016-2022, the HTBLA Villach underwent a radical facelift and expansion to anchor the academic institution’s architecture in today’s world.
The Steyr-based architects Hertl who worked on restructuring the basement and incorporation of classrooms, restructuring of the middle part of the upper floors and a new landscaped layout of the outside, took care of planning.
Ideally, ProMetall offers the type “Villach” as part of its portfolio. This type was – allegedly “coincidentally” – chosen for the project. Now the 2mm expanded metal façade actively contributes to the bicycle park’s visual improvement of. The bikes are housed in a room that creates a visual mark rather than a separation, thus ensuring that the facility’s open flow is not disturbed. Various openings invite users to use the facilities which offer protection, on the one hand, and appear transparent and visually simple, on the other hand.
EXPANDED METALS – practical and elegant
Expanded metals and expanded grates are made of a single piece of metal to ensure there are no strands causing wear and tear and no weighed-down connections or welding seams. As a result, the sustainable, robust material exhibits significant strength and surface stability which makes it ideal for use in façade design. Various materials can be used, the mesh is generally diagonal, hexagonal, round or square, neither twisted nor welded. Depending on the type, various effects are possible. The material retains its inner stability even when it is cut. Due to their 3-dimensional character, façades made of expanded metal turn into “eye catchers”.
