The variety of visual possibilities of ProMetall’s expanded metals is perfect for car parks! In this case, the goal was a high degree of visual protection, e.g. to create railing panels / safety barriers that reduce panic; despite horizontal transparency of only 10% there is enough light inside the building and if anyone wishes to take a look, they can peek downwards through the diagonal slats…;
WHEN ART AND VISUAL PROTECTION TURN INTO A PAINTING
The multi-storey car park SEEHUB in Seestadt Aspern is an object belonging to List Group, which is well-known for revitalisations that take historic context into consideration and for execution of modern architecture with forward-looking materials.
At SEEHUB the multi-functional approach ensured perfect execution of the challenges regarding vision and awakening. The unique factors are access to property use on the one hand, and sophisticated processing and the use of art in construction, on the other hand.
Thanks to the variety of visual possibilities ProMetall was the perfect partner for the project. The main focus was optimum visual protection in the form of railing panels to protect against falls. For this purpose, the expanded metal type “Rijeka”, aluminium 2mm, was selected: with a horizontal view of only 10%, it provides visual protection and a feeling of safety, and, at the right angle, allows sufficient views to the outside. Nevertheless, the interior is sufficiently lit to ensure it does not appear frightening or dangerous.
The combination of carefully chosen function and a contemporary interpretation of the motif of St Christophorus, patron saint of travellers, bestows architectonic and artistic value to the building.
EXPANDED METALS – practical and elegant
Expanded metals and expanded grates are made of a single piece of metal to ensure there are no strands causing wear and tear and no weighed-down connections or welding seams. As a result, the sustainable, robust material exhibits significant strength and surface stability which makes it ideal for use in façade design. Various materials can be used, the mesh is generally diagonal, hexagonal, round or square, neither twisted nor welded. Depending on the type, various effects are possible. The material retains its inner stability even when it is cut.
Due to their 3-dimensional character, façades made of expanded metal turn into “eye catchers”.
