The mountain station was added onto the Eastern part of the cable car’s existing mountain station and creates a harmonious and unique image.
Located in this exposed location, the building includes a statically challenging back-ventilated façade construction.
A WORLD RECORD HOLDER WITH ARCHITECTONIC REQUIREMENTS
Since 2014 Ischgl has had a new cable car that connects the city centre with the ski resort without any stops in between. The cable car climbs an altitude of 1,251 meters – the biggest height difference for any tri-cable gondola.
In this spectacular project, the mountain station was planned by the architects Jaeger Architektur ZT GmbH in Innsbruck and realised under extreme weather conditions, in cooperation with first-class suppliers. ProMetall was chosen to supply the 3mm expanded metal type “Salzburg” for the statically challenging back-ventilated façade construction. The planning was based on two crucial considerations: access to the building on skiers via a broad ramp, directly from the slope, and inclusion of the building into the public space. The building’s overhang on the village-facing side creates a canopy in the base area. Together with the creative use of light, this results in the location’s special role and atmospheric quality. The mountain station was added onto the Eastern part of the cable car’s existing mountain station and creates a harmonious and unique image.
EXPANDED METALS – practical and elegant
Expanded metals and expanded grates are made of a single piece of metal to ensure there are no strands causing wear and tear and no weighed-down connections or welding seams. As a result, the sustainable, robust material exhibits significant strength and surface stability which makes it ideal for use in façade design. Various materials can be used, the mesh is generally diagonal, hexagonal, round or square, neither twisted nor welded. Depending on the type, various effects are possible. The material retains its inner stability even when it is cut. Due to their 3-dimensional character, façades made of expanded metal turn into “eye catchers”.
